When do I take NuLYTELY?
NuLYTELY should be used the day before your colonoscopy. Your doctor will tell you when it is time to begin.
Can I eat anything after I start taking NuLYTELY?
NO. You must not eat any food from the time you start taking NuLYTELY until after you have your colonoscopy.
Remember that on the day before your procedure…
- You may have a light breakfast or clear liquids ONLY: please have nothing for dinner. No solid food should be consumed during the 3 to 4 hours before drinking the solution, but in no case should solid food be eaten within two hours of taking NULYTELY
- DO NOT eat or drink anything colored red or purple
What should I tell my doctor before taking NuLYTELY?
If you have severe ulcerative colitis, tell your doctor before using NuLYTELY. Any woman who is pregnant or who thinks she might be should tell her doctor before using this product. It is not known whether NuLYTELY can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproductive capacity. NuLYTELY should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
You should not take this product if you are allergic to anything in it. You should also not use this product if your intestines are blocked or larger than normal or if you have a stomach problem called gastric retention or an inflammation of your large intestines.
Be sure to tell your doctor about any medications you are taking.
Is NuLYTELY indicated for adults and children?
NuLYTELY is indicated for adults and children 6 months of age and older to take before they have a colonoscopy. Use of NuLYTELY in children younger than 2 years of age should be closely monitored for occurrence of possible hypoglycemia, as this solution has no caloric substrate. Dehydration has been reported in 1 child and hypokalemia has been reported in 3 children.
How should I drink NuLYTELY?
It is best to drink an 8-ounce glass every 10 minutes, until the rectal effluent is clear or 4 liters are consumed. Rapid drinking of each portion is preferred to drinking small amounts continuously. The first bowel movement should occur approximately one hour after the start of NuLYTELY administration. You may experience some abdominal bloating and distention before the bowels start to move. If severe discomfort or distention occur, stop drinking temporarily or drink each portion at longer intervals until these symptoms disappear.
What if I am taking other medicines?
Any medicines that you take within 1 hour of starting to drink the NuLYTELY solution may be flushed from the gastrointestinal tract and not absorbed. It is a good idea to check with your doctor about when to take your other medicines while you are using NuLYTELY.
Is NuLYTELY safe for patients with diabetes?
There are no contraindications for use in patients with diabetes. However, you should always check with your doctor to see if this product is right for you.
Are the NuLYTELY Flavor Packs sugar free?
Yes. The NuLYTELY Flavor Packs are sugar free.
Is there any red dye in the Cherry Flavor Pack?
No there is no red dye. The solution is clear.
Does NuLYTELY Bowel Prep Kit contain gluten?
NuLYTELY is a gluten-free product.
Can I add a liquid besides water to the NuLYTELY bottle to dissolve the powder?
No. Add only lukewarm drinking water to the top line on the bottle. Cap the bottle and shake to dissolve the powder.
NuLYTELY® and GoLYTELY® are indicated for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy. Use is contraindicated in patients with gastrointestinal obstruction, gastric retention, bowel perforation, toxic colitis, toxic megacolon or ileus and patients known to be hypersensitive to any of the components. Use with caution in patients with severe ulcerative colitis. Nausea, abdominal fullness and bloating are the most common adverse reactions. Abdominal cramps, vomiting and anal irritation occur less frequently. Isolated cases of urticaria, rhinorrhea, dermatitis, and (rarely) anaphylactic reaction have been reported which may represent allergic reactions.
